Fire Flow
The fire entered my life like a lightning bolt and came to stay. I am fire, my zodiac sign is Leo, and I was born in the year of the fire tiger (a lot of fire and a lot of cat) but I had never had the opportunity to explore my connection with it, and that beginning is also traced to my past as a metalhead and anger with the world.
My friend Rafa and I met when we were 18 years old, both in the dark world of heavy metal and full of fury and disagreement with the world and the system, but at a point in our friendship, Rafa got himself a hippie girlfriend and disappeared for about a year. One day we met again at a gathering in the mountains, and this reunion would change the course of my life. First, Rafa made me realize, by his example, that it was possible to emerge from the abyss of that darkness and change one’s life, and second, that night I saw him dance with fire for the first time, and immediately my love for this meditation and dance began, it was mesmerizing, intense, and transformative to the point that I asked him how I could get started in this dance, his response was to give me his practice toys and invite me to experiment with them!
My start was erratic, as with yoga and everything in my life, and from the beginning, I learned from beginner videos on the internet, practicing with motivation for a month and then setting them aside for 2, but eventually, as I deciphered the movements and integrated their effect, I understood why they call it the art of flow, concentric circles that move effortlessly following the body’s trajectory and tracing mandalas in the ether, expressing in a moment of presence and meditation the mood and emotions of the one who moves them! How important the flow arts have been in my life and how I seek to integrate them into all facets of my life.
By the time I moved to Nosara, I decided to professionalize my dance and make it part of my work, and today I can thank the fire for opening the doors to festivals like Envision in Costa Rica, Freedom Festival in Portugal, Transylvania Calling in Romania, Healing Roots in Austria, and 3 DNA in Hungary, as well as collaborating in other types of events in Guatemala, Bolivia, and Croatia.
Today, fire dancing is part of my service, my work, and who I am, and at the beginning of 2024, I teach flow to children and look for ways to expand my art in visual aspects such as stickers, paintings, and tarot.
